Statement from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs on summoning of Israeli Ambassador

Published

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has today, 27 May, summoned the Israeli Ambassador in Stockholm.

This took place in order for the Government to reiterate and underscore its demand that the Israeli Government immediately ensure secure and unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza. Blocking the delivery of food and other humanitarian aid to civilians is indefensible. The worst humanitarian situation since the war’s outbreak in October 2023 is playing out before our eyes.

When the Ambassador was summoned, it was stressed that Israel has the right to defend itself. However, that right must be exercised in accordance with international law. The manner in which the war is currently being conducted is unacceptable. Israel must live up to its obligation to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure in accordance with international humanitarian law.

The terrorist organisation Hamas bears heavy responsibility for the current situation. The hostages must be released – unconditionally and immediately.
